Police, under the Bulgarian legislation, protect the national security, tackle crime and protect public order, ensure the investigation of crimes, carrying out operational-search activities and preventing terrorist acts.

Carrying of firearms and knives, as well as possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs and substances is prohibited on the territory of Bulgaria.

The right of the police to search would help to prevent and detect crime and maintain security of citizens.

When inspecting, the police officers must introduce themselves – their names, positions and corresponding structural unit in which they serve.
Detainee has the right of using translator’s services in case he/she does not understand and speak Bulgarian.
