Social assistance is expressed in the provision of support in money and/or in kind as well as in providing services for satisfying basic life needs of the citizens.The Social Assistance Law regulates the public relations, related to the social security of the citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria. Entitled to social assistance are Bulgarian citizens, families and persons living together, who, due to health, age, social or other reasons beyond their control, cannot satisfy their basic life needs by themselves. Foreigners with permission for permanent residence permits, foreigners who were granted asylum, refugee status or humanitarian status, enjoy the same rights. Social aids are means in money and/or in kind that complete or substitute the own income to the basic life needs or satisfy incidental needs of individuals and families.Unemployed individuals, who meet the requirements for assistance with the monthly aids, involve in employment programs, approved by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs. For the implementation of the state policy in the area of the social assistance, Agency for social assistance has been established.
