According to Article 2, paragraph 1 of the Regulation for the conditions and the order for issuing, deny and revocation of license for work of foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria, the work permission is a personal document that certify the right of the aliens to perform labor activities on the territory of Bulgaria only for a concrete physical or legal person and for the stated location, occupation, type and work deadline.

In order for an alien to work on a labor contract in Bulgaria, he/she must receive permission from the Employment Agency.

The procedure is driven by the initiative of the employer who is willing to hire a foreigner. After issuing the permission, the foreigner is allowed to work only for this company. The termination of the employment contract automatically means loss of the work permission of the foreigner. Each employer may receive a personal consultation in relation to the procedure on behalf of a specialist from the Employment Agency.

Foreigners in Bulgaria reside short or long. Long stay might be continuous – till 1 year, or permanent- for unlimited time.
