Most part of the population of Republic of Bulgaria are Orthodox Christians.The bigger part of them (82.6%) are Orthodox, 1.7% are Catholics, while 1.6% are Protestants. 12.2% are Muslims and Judaism represents 0.8% of them. Article 12 of the Bulgarian constitution since 1991 guarantees religious freedom, but it states that the traditional religion in the country is the Eastern Orthodoxy at the forefront of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Moreover, the constitution obliges the government and institutions to keep and respect religious neutrality principles.
